In Floyd’s own words: One of my first recollections was of my brother grabbing me as I toddled after him as he was crossing Ascan Avenue to go to the two-room schoolhouse, PS 101.…in 1922 when I was in diapers.
I remember Miss MacDonald bringing the Daily News and the Journal American to class… we kids read the New York Times or the Herald Tribune, and argued with her about current events. We had the best English teacher in the world.
Us kids always went home for lunch, of course. I don’t remember there being a lunch room!
My family did not have a radio until 1930. Us kids rushed home after school to do our homework and then listen to "Bobby Benson,” “Dick Armstrong, the All-American Boy,” and “The Shadow.”
